Choosing Baby Nursery Bedding with Confidence: Necessary Things to Keep in Mind

The perfect nursery usually starts with the perfect nursery bedding. The nursery is all planned out. You’ve chosen the crib, the rug, the stuffed animals, even the light-switch covers… but have you forgotten something? You baby is going to spend a lot of time in the crib, so choose the bedding carefully. Here are some things you need to think about:

- First and foremost, consider your newborn’s comfort. Bedding should be soft, with 100% cotton being one of the best choices. Knit cotton, flannel, and high thread count woven cotton are all excellent choices.

- Babies have a lot of “accidents”, so buy bedding that is machine washable (another great reason to choose cotton).

- To prevent the risk of suffocation, make sure that the crib sheets fits the mattress snugly. A small investment can solve the problem, though: elastic straps to hold the sheets in place.

- A bedding set might seems like the most economical way to buy bedding, but this is not necessarily true. If you want the set to complete the nursery’s decor then it mioght still make sense, but soft bedding including comforters should be removed from the crib when your baby is sleeping. Buying individual pieces can therefore make a lot more sense than buying a set. And don’t worry – your bedding can still match when you’re buying individual pieces. In fact, you can get a more unique nursery by using separates and bit of imagination.

- And lastly, when you’ve taken care of all the more important concerns, consider the look of the bedding, and how it will coordinate with the rest of the nursery.

Depending on your needs, you may need want to spend more money on higher-quality bedding, or you may want to choose something a little less expensive. If you are using a convertible crib then you can use the same sheets from birth through the end of the toddler years. If you think your family will continue to grow, it’s a very smart decision to buy a gender neutral bedding set like the Vintage bedding set, because you can reuse it (and the whole nursery decor) no matter what the gender of your next child. But if you love to redecorate, then you might want to buy something lower-quality and less expensive. Whether you buy expensive bedding or cheap, a set or separates, make sure you buy extras, because you’ll need them!
