Sleep Apnea Is A Large and Repeatedly Under Diagnosed Trouble

Last week I went with my girlfriend to get her hair done. She had spent a considerable amount of time driving me around while I was getting my car worked on, so I kind of owed her. It’s one of those give and take things that are necessary for a healthy relationship.

The problem was when I started falling asleep while the lady was giving the beginning instructions. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t keep my eyes opened. Which seemed strange because I went to bed the same time as always the night before, and woke up the same time on that day.

This worried my girlfriend. Her brother had a big problem with sleep apnea. One of the symptoms is snoring, and he used to keep his whole family awake at night. That is one of the symptoms. So when he checked it out with the doctor, they learned the dangers of untreated sleep apnea.

The doctor went over all the symptoms with the family. Common ones are sleepiness during the day, headaches, frequent waking up to go to the bathroom, and so on. Lucky they were able to find a solution. Most people don’t know about the dangers that come with undiagnosed sleep apnea.

Now my girlfriend doesn’t know if I snore or not, but she was kind of worried since I was so sleepy during the day. She also noted that other times I felt tired when I shouldn’t have. Like the other night when I fell asleep during the romance comedy we were watching.

She took me to the same doctor that they saw before, and he went over the symptoms with me. He said it would help if I kept a sleep diary, and record any information I could think of whenever I woke up. She also suggested that I record myself while I sleep. There are telltale signs if you snore that indicate sleep apnea. If you play the tape for the doctor, he’ll know exactly what to do.
